Entrek TOOLBOX consists of two tools – CodeSnitchTM and ProcManTM. The tools are designed to aid the development of professional application software designed for wireless and embedded platforms based on the Microsoft Windows CE operating system. “The latest edition of Entrek TOOLBOX now has support for all major Windows CE CPUs, improved debugging capabilities, and better performance,” said Michael Salamone, president of Entrek. “These tools enable developers to easily find and fix elusive runtime errors in their application software – problems that are difficult to resolve using traditional debuggers.” CodeSnitch is an application runtime error detection tool. Now with support for more than 100 Windows APIs, it reports memory and resource leaks, heap corruption, and API failures. It is useful for tracking C/C++ and MFC applications as well as ActiveX objects that may be loaded by a Visual Basic script or Internet Explorer. CodeSnitch uses symbolic information to indicate the exact source file and line where a particular problem occurred. “Unlocking the promise of wireless data is a collective effort. For the Microsoft Pocket PC and Smartphone platforms it is extremely important that application software be memory and resource efficient. Entrek TOOLBOX provides great tools for profiling application memory and resource usage as well as detecting memory leaks,” said Vimal Sethi, product manager for the Mobility Group at Microsoft Corp. “These tools will help to achieve a secure and expanding wireless ecosystem.” Procman is a Windows CE system monitor and manager. It allows the user to monitor in real time CPU, virtual memory, and heap usage. Applications can be fine-tuned by altering thread priority and quantum. Procman can also be used to debug GUI problems by displaying Windows properties and allowing experimentation with Windows attributes such as Z-order, size, location, and style bits. "With Entrek TOOLBOX, our development team finally has the tools necessary to deploy robust software," said Poul Thomas Lomholt, a Senior Software Design Engineer at InfoMove, Inc. "I am really impressed by TOOLBOX's ability to quickly identify problems in the code."
